  • The AM4 socket represented by the generation AMD RYZEN 3,5 and 7 of 1st and 2nd generation

Sockets in detail:

  • INTEL – socket 1151 COFFEE LAKE: The 9th generation COFFEE LAKE was released in October 2018, just one year after the 8th generation. The socket remains the same but Z370 motherboards require a bios update to run the new processors. This is the same architecture since Skylake in 2015, the only major evolution has been the increase of hearts with the passage to Coffee Lake.
  • AMD – socket AM4 (Ryzen), Output early 2017, the socket AM4 of AMD can accommodate the processors of the new generation AMD Ryzen (generation 1×00). Ryzen + (2×00 generation) uses the same but a bios update of the B350 / X370 is required to use a Ryzen 2000 processor. Socket compatibility is assured until 2020

Motherboard formats:

  • The most common format is the standard ATX, which corresponds to medium and large towers and the one that is recommended. Indeed, this format gives the largest choice of motherboards, as well as many possibilities of extension, and also many settings of the Bios, especially for overclocking.

In short, the transition to the 8th generation of Core processors will be at a high price, since it is mandatory to simultaneously acquire CPU and motherboard.

Using a 9000 series processor requires bios update on Z370 motherboards
